The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York

As the men’s Olympic ice hockey tournament returns for the Milan-Cortina Games, viewers are invited to relive a legendary sports triumph through Netflix’s documentary “Miracle: The Boys of '80.”

This film revisits the unforgettable “Miracle on Ice,” when the 1980 U.S. men’s hockey team stunned the world by seizing Olympic gold in Lake Placid.

Directed by Buffalo native Max Gershberg, the documentary weaves local pride and personal memories, with Gershberg recalling how the Sabres and the Bills shaped his early love of the game.

Gershberg’s own hockey roots in Buffalo add depth, as does his celebrated Emmy-winning career in sports storytelling.

The film’s emotional core shines through never-before-seen 16mm footage and heartfelt interviews, including a reunion with 16 of the 17 surviving 1980 team members in Lake Placid.

Buffalo’s legacy is spotlighted by former Sabre Mike Ramsey, reaffirming hometown connections to this historic victory.

“Miracle: The Boys of '80” is now streaming.
